Mark Anielski Keynote Speeches

Mark Anielski 2014-4 no tie

Mark Anielski

I have given over 100 keynote motivational speeches and hosted workshops on how you and your organization can discover and build ‘genuine wealth’ (well-being and happiness) in your personal life, your organization and your community.

The Buddha said that the purpose of life is to achieve happiness. Did you know that the word ‘happiness’ comes from the Greek eudaimonia which literally means well-being of spirit?

I believe the purpose of our lives and our work is to achieve genuine happiness which includes a healthy balance of material well-being, mental, physical, emotional and spiritual well-being supported by enduring and flourishing relationships.

In 30 minutes of my presentation you will find out how to build a flourishing life of enduring happiness and well-being based on the model I’ve developed called Genuine Wealth.  Whether you are a individual looking for the secrets to enduring happiness, a company looking to become a flourishing well-being enterprise, or a community wanted to develop the new economy of well-being, my book The Economics of Happiness: Building Genuine Wealth (New Society Publishers) provides a practical how-to roadmap to building a life that is abundant in well-being and happiness.

If you would like to book me to speak at your forthcoming event please contact me at at 780.964.0090 or send me an email at

Here are some samples of the presentations I’ve made over the years.

Towards an Economy of Genuine Happiness: Creating flourishing Communities of Well-being, Keynote speech to the University of British Columbia (UBC) Reads Sustainability lecture series, November 20, 2013.

In this keynote to UBC’s Reads Sustainability (an exciting program that brings well-known sustainability authors to our campus to engage in a campus-wide discussion), I present my vision for building flourishing communities of well-being based on Bhutan’s vision of a new economic paradigm based on well-being and happiness.

The Economics of Genuine Happiness, Keynote at the Economics of Happiness Conference (Byron Bay, Australia), March 15, 2013

On March 15th, 2013 I gave the opening keynote address to the international Economics of Happiness conference held at Byron Bay, Australia. Hosted by Helen Norberg-Hodge, the producer of the documentary film, the Economics of Happiness. I spoke about the importance of grounding theme of happiness and wellbeing in the original meaning of these words. Happiness comes from the Greek work eudaimonia which means ‘wellbeing of spirit’ or ‘spiritual wellbeing.’ I argue that our goal is to help build practical working models of new communities and economies of wellbeing where wealth is properly defined from the Old English word “weal-th”, meaning ‘wellbeing conditions.”

  1. Hi There
My enquiry is not related to the above – I read The Economics of Happiness a few years back. Im really interested in knowing if the author has devised a workable accounting method for the 5 capitals? If so can you give me a brief outline of what it entails or point me in the direction as to where i might find the information I’m looking for. I’m currently writing an essay for the book format and i would like to include the Economics of Happiness 5 capitals within it. I await word. thank you for your time-:)

    • Hi Miranda, thank’s for writing. Yes, I’ve developed a working model for measuring the five capital assets of communities, nations and workplaces. These are not officially published as they are part of my proprietary model for assessing well-being. You can find some examples of my work on my website under publications including measuring the well-being of the City of Leduc in Alberta and the City of Edmonton. There are some examples in my book as well. My corporate client work is proprietary so I can’t share that with you. Hope that helps. cheers!

  2. Just a thank you Mark for taking the time to answer my email. I know you must be quite busy so I am very appreciative.

  3. Gautami Das says:

In December 2007 I attended my son’s graduation from University of Illinois’ Engineering Dept. I do not remember the Keynote speaker’s name but remember how impressed I was by that speech. I came across your book recently and wondering if you were the speaker who, so eloquently, explained the limits of our relentless pursuit of happiness.

    • Hi Gautami, I was not he speaker at your son’s graduation since my book was just published in the US in Sept 2007. I was interviewed on 33 public radio programs in October 2007 which amazed me. There are many of my presentations on Youtube that you can see. I’m now writing my next book An Economy of Wellbeing that should be published in the spring of 2018. Thanks for writing and all the best to your son. Mark
